Should a student be unable to take her examination due to accident, illness or injury, resulting in prolonged absence the College will allow the student to return to complete their studies without further payment of tuition fees. However, absence will have to be supported by a Doctor’s certificate and pre-existing medical conditions cannot be covered. This scheme applies to tuition fees only. Pre-paid examination fees are non-refundable.
A full costing for all courses is available on request or at interview. This includes all tuition fees, kit, uniform, text books, examination fees and VAT at the current rate.
‘Professional and Career Development Loans are commercial bank loans that can be used to help pay for work related learning. You can borrow between £300 and £10,000 to help support the cost of up to two years of learning (or three years if it includes one year’s relevant unpaid practical work). The Government will pay the interest on the loan while you are learning and for one month afterwards. You will then need to start repaying the loan as you would any other commercial loans product. The loan can be used to pay course fees or other costs such as travel and living expenses. You can also use the loan to supplement other forms of support such as grants or bursaries. As the Professional and Career Development Loan is a commercial loan product, you should make sure you have investigated all the funding options that may be open to you to ensure you take an informed decision about whether the Loan is right for you. For further information on financial assistance to support your learning, visit www.direct.gov.uk/adultlearning or contact Next Step on 0800 100 900. Our learning provider registration number is: 3081’
Some students may also apply for EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance)
Whatever you decide to do, EMA could help you with the cost of books, travel, equipment or anything useful to continue learning. It is worth up to £30 a week, and it is paid straight into your bank account, not to your parents or your college.
What is the catch?
There is no catch. As long as you attend regularly and work hard, there should be no problem in receiving EMA. And if you stay in learning, it could affect what you earn - the latest research shows that learning a new skill and getting a new qualification can actually mean more money in your hands, increasing your annual salary by up to £3,000.
Interested?
Your next step is to find out whether you qualify, and how much you could get at ema.direct.gov.uk. Payment plans may also be an option. These are subject to status and terms and conditions apply.
